A note on Earth Standard Timeᴱˢᵀᴰ: After humans ventured off-planet, they maintained their heliocentric timekeeping system. Much in the spirit of many archaic and inefficient systems we keep in place today (e.g. QWERTY keyboards, Imperial System measurements, the Gregorian calendar.) The only reason for this being that Earth time was already being used, making it easier to keep than to agree on another system.

The Amarha Expanse is a cluster of solar systems. The Amesa system being one such system within, it lies on the outskirts of the expanse in a seldom traveled area of the Galaxy. 

In the year 6834ᴱ⁽ᴱ, Cup Noodles® are a rare and coveted delicacy. Having gone out of production in 6752ᴱ⁽ᴱ it is uncommon to find an unopened package (the packaging remained unchanged since the 20th century, when they were still manufactured on Earth!) It wasn’t until the 6800’s that people started to realize the incredibly convenient delight that they had lost. There were many corporate attempts to recreate Cup Noodles®, but none of them were able to capture the true essence. Unfortunately most other, better, instant noodle brands went out of business hundreds of years earlier. 

“Cel” is an abbreviation of “Celestial Cutter,” the name of Val’s ship. On that note, “Val” is an abbreviation of “Valceri” (pronounced as Valkyrie, val·kr·ee) 

A note on EarthCommonEraᴱ⁽ᴱ: After a cataclysmic series of events nearly wiped out the Earth’s population in the 21st century, the hopeful survivors declared a new era as they prepared to evacuate the now unlivable planet. Named after Earth so that our original home could be remembered through time. BCE(BC)→CE(AD)→ECE(NCE) Sometimes called “New Common Era” by those less in favor of human colonization.

The buildings of Ardaht ‘Li were nearly all modeled after or inspired by USSR built architecture and monuments, although the city by no means practices any Soviet beliefs. Ardaht ‘Li operates under very strict dog-eat-dog capitalistic rules. 

During the 3-hour period of sunlight each day, the temperature can become lethal. Many buildings do not have windows. In the less prosperous neighborhoods it is a luxury to have windows, and they must always be covered during sunlight hours.

Where are all the aliens? Well as it turns out, on every planet capable of sustaining life the organisms evolved in the exact same way as on Earth. So the aliens look just like humans, or any other terrestrial organism. A lot of people were very disappointed when they perfected deep space travel and found this out. Information is provided by the Devil Himself in the skit ‘Deep Space Travel’ by MC Chris. 

The wiggly green door in the last panel is a thermally insulated jelly door that cools the arriver as they walk through it.

The green door under the blue neon “Tessen” sign (short for delicatessen), is made up of laser light that sanitizes whoever passes though its’ beams.

The blue door under the red sign is just a regular glass rotating door. The sign might say “Petey’s” or “Bevey’s” but nobody is really sure and there is much local debate over it. The staff have no clue either.
